Errata and late id's from the weekend 22/23rd May. Green shieldbug, not Gorse Shieldbug. Missed out :- Large Pine Weevil - North Wood Cantharus rustica (soldier beetle) and Zilla Diodia (Spider) - Branscombe Hornet! - Dartmoor Errata from weekend 15/16th - missed out 2 barred longhorn Haldon. Thursday 27th came back and got Procumbent Pearlwort, Red Valerian (introduced and widely naturalised), and finally a bit of spotlighting into the cobweb tunnels after dark gave up three pairs of forward facing legs and the irridescent green chelicerae of spider Segestria Florentina (another introduction that was first found in coastal ports over a hundred years ago and is now widespread along the south coast). Friday 28th Went up on the Haldon heathland in the evening, and waited.. and waited.. saw a couple of mottled young fallow deer.. and waited.. and I photographed a wicked looking harvestman and a click beetle.. and waited.. and eventually the loud churring of the target species, Nightjar. We had at least three birds calling, the nearest moved several times before I spotted it outlined on a branch. Nicola just about got on it before the bird flew, clapping its wings in display and disappearing over the conifers. Species : Nightjar, Fallow Deer, Segestria Florentina (Spider), Procumbent Pearlwort, Red Valerian Birds 174, Furries 15, Spiders 15, Flora 231 GT 639 Unid'd stress level - mounting!
