Great spider! These guys (or similar species) are all over the place here at certain times of the year. Their webs look wonderful with the dew condensed on them in the mornings (which given our climate happens virtually every day this time of year).

Hey Matt,

I'm taking a sketching class weekly for a couple months, and the instructor brought some magazines to class today. As I was paging through one of them - I believe Artist's Magazine - from 2001, there was your article on drawing birds. Nice to see!

John, that is pretty funny! Ten years sure fly by. The editor there was nice to deal with. He had very few changes to the article. The color separations weren't great on some of the paintings... and they misspelled "Downy" woodpecker. Its funny the things you remember.

Thanks for the comments on the spider. Those marbled orb weavers have always been one of my favorites. Almost as cool as the jumping spiders.

Thanks Rahul, I should have some other WIPs up before long.

This snapping turtle is the final drawing in the sketchbook. My neighbors found it while gardening.

Nicely done, and I really like the close-in crop! I always remember growing up being told that an adult could snap a broom handle, so I steered clear of them.

Amazing the detail in these tiny pieces, this one is superb. What a treat to see the WIP. What a patient painter you are...

. . . and amazingly talented. I don't know what to say about this dragon piece that hasn't already been said. It is a terrific piece of work - love it!

Wow, the dragonfly is great! I never dare to draw one because of the wing venation. Really great job!

With kind regards,
Kathrin
