In this case comparing the Maven to the Swarovski the Maven's FOV is bigger but it's sweetspot is smaller and it's edges are less sharp than the Swarovski. At first the Maven impressed me but the more I compared the two the less it impressed especially as the sun set. Don't get me wrong if I could have a perfect 450 foot FOV with no RB and razor sharp edges and a tack sharp on-axis view @8X I would like it. Maybe the Zeiss SF will do that but between these two binoculars even with the smaller FOV I still prefer the view overall of the Swarovski.
I used to be a FOV maniac too. Thinking bigger is always better but I think the limit now is bout 450 feet if the entire field and edges are sharp. Anything above that like these 10 degree older classic porro's makes it hard for your eyes to process all that information. In this case comparing the Maven to the Swarovski the Maven's FOV is bigger but it's sweetspot is smaller and it's edges are less sharp than the Swarovski. Also, the on-axis view in the Swarovski is sharper so to me I would rather have the smaller sharper view with a bigger sweetspot.
