It really is a weird month.......
Hardly any nights here in Loughborough have been worth trapping, and when I do put it on I catch hardly anything, yet I have now had six new macros!
Shears and Chamomile Shark to add to the four last week.

I've been away for a few nights so I've not had anything since 23rd... but that night I clocked up a few more common species that were nfy:
common carpet
broken-barred carpet
small square-spot
bee moth

I have come late into this thread regarding total catches but last night considering I didn't trap for very long I still ended up with a couple of garden firsts.

I only ran the trap from 21:30 to midnight last night when it started to rain quite heavily. Up until then it had been fairly busy with 34 moths caught for 17 species, 2 of them firsts for me. They were:

10 x LBAM
4 x Green Carpet
4 x Common Marbled carpet
3 x Flame Shoulder
2 x Brimstone
1 x Oak Hook-tip
1 x Shuttle-shaped Dart
1 x Bright-line Brown-eye
1 x Small Fan-foot
1 x Small Magpie
1 x Small Square-spot
1 x Green Pug
1 x Common Pug
1 x Scoparia ambigualis
1 x White-shouldered Brown-house Moth
1 x Alder Moth (NFG)
1 x Clouded-bordered Brindle (NFG)

Photos are of:

1. Alder Moth
2. Clouded-bordered Brindle
3. Oak Hook-tip
4. Small Magpie
5. Small Fan-foot

I can't agree with that Ken. The top line goes straight across. With the Fan-foot it would take a right angle upwards near the edge of the wing.

The bottom line curves downward towards the wing tip. On a Fan-foot it would go virtually straight across. It was also a small moth.

John

Looks more like fan-foot to me

nothing out of the ordinary last night but did get a strange Garden Carpet. It was one of three i caught, but i was half the size of the others and the one in the book. it was definatly a GC as it showed everything one should just smaller. Is this normal?

What i thought was going to be a really busy night just produced one new for the garden, which was a stunning peppered moth. Anyway the list went like this:
3 Common Marbled Carpet,
3 Rustic Shoulder knot,
2 Garden Carpet,
2 Clouded bordered Brindle,
1 Peppered Moth,
1 Shuttle Shaped Dart,
1 Flame Carpet.

Also after going through some i potted yesturday, reveiled a Red Green Carpet which was another first.

Last night was promising, with clouds giving darkness, and keeping temperature above 15 degrees all through the night. I ran different types of light spread around my place, most of the catch came to the dim UV/blacklights I was using. Not much at all to 125w MV or other bright lamps, for some reason.

Anyway- here is the result as far as I am able to ID:

Clostera curtula- Chocolate-tip 2
Selenia dentaria- Early thorn 2
Plagodis pulveraria- Barred umber 4
Odontopera bidentata- Scalloped hazel 2
Xanthorhoe spadicearia- Red twin-spot carpet 2
Hadena perplexa- Tawny shears (?) 1
Orthosia gothica- Hebrew character 2
Colocasia coryli- Nut-tree tussock 1

Feel free to comment my ID of the Hadena perplexa, wich is the one I doubt a little about.

Not much of May left... but I managed a nfy this morning with lots of Glyphipterix thrasonella
flying around our garden pond.
They're devils to photograph. After taking loads I've not come up with anything I'm really pleased with but I'm attaching a pic.

You know me and micros but I'd hazard a guess at Epiblema uddmanniana - though it looks a lot darker than most of the photos on the web.

I had a busy night last night with approx 80 moths trapped covering possibly in excess of 30 species.

I have managed to ID most of them but as usual there a few tricky ones. I have had a go at identifying all of them. Some I am fairly confident with, some I'm not too sure about.

The first two I am pretty sure are Sword Grass but I have never had one before so I just need confirmation.

1. Sword Grass
2. Sword Grass
3. Poss Lobesia abscisana
4. Poss Lobesia abscisana
5. Middle-barred Minor

I have a couple of very tiny Micro's to follow that I think I have sorted but I am more than likely wrong but prior to that how are my ID's on those above.
