On a forecast of positive temperatures all night, put the trap out. Woke up and looked out to a sharp ground frost....

Early Grey 1

That's it. One moth. Happy May Day, everybody.

Sure we've had this chat before, your efforts ending on 1st May should correctly be logged for 30th April but I presume you still don't conform?

I still don't see the logic - half the night is the second date and most of us open the trap during that date, not the first one - but I confess I actually forgot on this occasion. 😁

I agree on the logic part and especially as you don't submit records, it's not really important unless you're a pedant like me

Our recorder would have me transported to the Colonies (if we had any left) for an oversight such as this.

Here is my Mullein from last night.

I think the date thing, about which Andy is right, is so that with submitted records everything is standardised. This means if you take a bunch of records from one date but multiple sources and then look at weather conditions you get a better picture of effect. Or a clearer record of an influx. The moths have no concept of a day starting at midnight, the night is just the dark bit.
But if the records aren't going anywhere it probably doesn't matter.

Having had only my seventh Mullein the night before last, along come eight and nine last night with a Green Carpet and and Early Thorn but it's still horrible weather here. The main difference last night was the cloud cover which means it wasn't quite as cold.

Disappointing night last night, just 2 Hebrew Characters and a Pug sp which is currently in the fridge for better photos later. A couple attached of it on the wall, where it was too far up to get decent shots (and barely reachable to pot).

02/05. Not too exciting here either. 1 Angle Shades, 1 Powdered Quaker, 1 Common Quaker, 1 Chestnut and 1 Shuttle-shaped Dart (nfy).

Tonight is heavy rain, think we need it. It may help improve matters as it could encourage emergence if the temperature lifts later in the week.

08/05. Only five moths, whilst temp was good I think the wind stopped much happening.
1 Lunar Marbled Brown, 1 Shuttle-shaped Dart, 1 Brindled Pug and 2 Common Quakers.

After an extended barren spell due to moth-unfriendly weather finally got a decent haul last night. Back wall was plastered with Pugs (expect to see a slew of them on the ID subforum later), 3 Least Black Arches, Flame Carpet, Waved Umber and Swallow & Lesser Swallow Prominents, with 2 Clouded Drabs in the trap. Tonight looks decent too, fingers crossed.

Rubbish here last night with just a single, Garden Carpet for my troule, that is until I noticed a Least Black Arches on the Wall which hadn't come all the way in, a tick!

I had to lean out of a first floor window to get this shot.

Poor Judge of Pasta.
A load more anonymous Pugs last night, but this time they were joined by one I could actually identify - V-Pug, which was NFY, as was a Small Phoenix. Otherwise 3 Least Black Arches and 2 each of Clouded Drab & Lesser Swallow Prominent.

09/05. Warmer and less wind but wetter. 3 moths. 1 Shuttle-shaped Dart, 1 Brimstone (nfy) and 1 Mompha subbistrigella.
Everyday I think it will improve.
Anyway, tonight it will improve.
Tomorrow's word might be improvident.

Forgot to add - 3 Black Sexton Beetles. As many beetles as moths!
