Melanerpes pygmaeus?? (1 Viewer)

The attached pictures were taken at Xscaret just south of Playa del Carmen on the east coast of the Yucatan peninsula, Mexico.

They didn't seem to fit either Red-bellied or Golden-fronted woodpeckers images that I could find, but based on a previous thread here
http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?p=2036207 and an article in Opus here http://www.birdforum.net/opus/Yucatan_Woodpecker
I'm guessing that this is a Yucatan Woodpecker, Melanerpes pygmaeus, subspecies rubricomus.

Can anyone here confirm this for me please - and are the pics of any use in the Opus or elsewhere here?

Many thanks, Martin

No, that is the Yucatan subspecies of Golden-fronted Woodpecker. Yucatan Woodpecker would have a shorter bill and yellow near the bill.

Ah! Excellent, many thank for swift response Patrick. Thats great, so it's Melanerpes aurifrons dubius. Many thanks for your help, very much appreciated!

Kind regards, Martin
