Hello guys hoping this message finds you well. I'm a colombian living in Brisbane going for the first time to Melbourne and I wanted to ask you for recomendation on birding spots around the city. Don't have any specific targets or anything, it will be actually a work trip but I'll have a couple of days off so planning to use them birdwatching. For now I think I'll have to use public transport since I have check the car rental prices and they are way to expensive for just myself.

Thank you very much for reading and have a happy birding!

Also if there is someone wiling to join me don't hesitate to get in touch so we can birdwaching in company, I'll be in Melbourne from Sat 22/03 to Wed 26/3.

Welcome to Birdforum.

It might be an idea to ask in Information Wanted board.

Hi Rafa and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. Here is a link to the Opus article covering Victoria: Category:Victoria - BirdForum Opus which has some useful information and links to explore. I think the Melbourne Botanic Gardens may suit you as a starter.

BTW I have deleted the email address from your post as, for your own internet safety, we do not allow these to appear in the forum. The safest method of communicating with members is via the private Conversation facility (the envelope in the top bar).

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Hi @Rafamantilla
In a masterpiece of poor timing I live near Melbourne and would have loved to give some advice and ideally show you round the Melbourne area. But I am currently in transit back from 3 weeks birding in North-east India so can't help.

This site has some indication of sites that are accessible by public transport or not
- Birding Sites in Melbourne and Victoria — Birding Victoria
Public Transport Victoria website can help with trains/bus planning although you will need to use Google maps and ebird to preplan where you want to be.

I'd add Parkville, Trin Warren Tam Boore specifically as a nice site easily accessible from town with good birds. Example trip report from last year here:
Weekday outing to Trin Warren Tam-boore, Parkville
Accessible by number 59 tram and a short walk.

If you are on Facebook you could try reaching out to the 'Victorian Birders' group, mostly Melbourne based.

I had trips to wonderful Colombia birding in 2020 and 2023, would have like to help you in my area but sadly cannot do this time. If you make it down here another time let me know, if I can I will!
