Merlin,.... right? (1 Viewer)

This beauty was tearing apart a sparrow near my house this morning - first saw it from my couch! I've seen kestrels nearby in farmlands (central Michigan, USA), but I have never seen a merlin in life before. I think, with the solid great wings and orange-brown stripped chest and legs, this must be a merlin (also appeared larger than a kestrel), but I don't see many pictures of merlins with such a pronounced vertical bar on their face, and merlins may fly though here (about now) but never stay. So, I am 80% sure I know the ID but would love confirmation... Thanks for any comments.

Re: the picture, this was taken with my iPhone, handheld up to a pair of Swarovski CL B 8x30 binoculars, so, sorry it's pixelated.
