I'm in central Texas, and am not a bird watcher, probably couldn't tell a grackle from a crow, but am a competative rifle shooter, and amature stargazer, and whenever I look for reviews on binoculars and spotting scopes, threads from this site always pop up. I recently needed a second spotting scope, so I could leave my primary set up on a tripod for others, and still have a second to use at the bench. So I bought a used Kowa 663m with the 25x LER eyepiece. My other spotter is the older style Vortex Razor 85mm with their LER eyepiece. I have a Televue Telepod head on a fixed height wood tripod, that seems permanently attached, can't figure out how to remove the head to use on an adjustable height tripod. That being said would like any advice on portable, solid, adjustable mounts under $250, and hope to learn a little about what I think you call digiscoping, or using a camera or webcam to image though my spotting scopes.

Hi Boxlock and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

I've moved your post to the dedicated Tripod and Heads forum, where it will more likely receive attention from those who can assist you. Meanwhile, I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

I dug through some boxes out on the garage and found an old tiffen three way fluid head that should work, with a 1/4-20 base, now just need a tripod.
