After the helpful suggestions here earlier in the year I planned and booked a second visit to South Africa for my wife and I, starting the 19th of this month. We are visiting:
Wakkerstroom
Mkhuze
St Lucia
Hluhluwe
Giant's Castle (even managed to book the vulture hide!)
Golden Gate NP
We went to St Lucia and Wakkerstroom last year, but the other destinations are a first. We chose Mkhuze for its reputation as a birder's paradise, and also for its photographic opportunities form the hides. Is there any hide (or other spot)in particular, that is worth spending time at for birds? We are spending 4 days in MKuze, so plenty of time to just go and sit somewhere for a few hours. Also I am finding rather mixed feelings about the so-called fig-tree walk. Has anybody done that recently and was it worth doing? The mixed feelings had, in some cases, more to do with the perceived lack of interest from the guide, but even so, it would be nice to hear some feedback on this.
We are very much looking forward to our trip and I'll be sure to post a report in due course.
Thanks in advance for any replies,
Peter
