Hello,

I'm not sure about the ID of this harrier in migration today in Switzerland.

I think it is an adult female Montagu's Harrier but...

Thank you¨

You're perfectly right. Perfect jizz with long wings and pattern of underwing including the diagnostic axillaries which can be seen very nicely here. Nice shot!

Is it possible to expand on the ID tips for distinguishing ringtail Monty's from ringtail Hen harrier please?
What is it about the auxillaries that are diagnostic?

I understand that Monty's (or Pallid) has 4 primaries showing as opposed to Hen's 5, but what else should I be looking for?
Any help much appreciated.
Marcus
