Made my first visit to Moore NR today. Had the very dubious honour of being present when some ars*hole thought it'd be a crack to try and burn the place to the ground. Two seperate largish areas of gorse have been torched but thanks to the efforts of the fire brigade they stopped it from becoming much worse. One was up on the hill behind the car park and one was at the other end of the field in front of the car park. One of the volunteers who was birding there saw someone suspicious running awy from one of the fires and we later got his reg plate and asked him what he was doing as he left in his car. He gave us a cock and bull story about him jogging and what not but it was complete BS really and we knew it. Couldn't really stop him from leaving even though he offered to wait (doubt he would've) but it's up to the police to start an investigation with the info gathered and the report from the fire brigade. Apparently it's not uncommon in that area with Moss View is it, having had some in the last month? Words just fail me... Needless to say took a large chunk out of my time there and the only thing of note for me was the Cuckoo calling well in the early evening but rain stopped me from trying to locate it. Also don't think I've ever in my life seen so many Lesser Black-backed Gulls, that was good. Would love to revisit as it looks an interesting place but it's a long way to travel so I doubt it'll be anytime soon. :-C Cheers all.
