Spruce Carpet for me.
Based on? I get a lot of Grey Pine Carpet and very few Spruce, so I have a real interest in the reasons - but I think it is very helpful to those who are struggling with an ID if whoever offers a diagnosis gives their reasons (especially because sometimes two people give different diagnoses!)

Cheers

John

I think it is the outline of the central band that makes this Spruce as it is less smooth than Grey Pine. They can be tricky.

That may be more diagnostic - ties in with the 'lozenges' in the panels I was referring to. Grey Pine looks a lot cleaner/smoother/finer.

A bit hard to tell on that photo, but I think I can see a dark streak running from the apex, and continued between the the outer main block and the lozenges. That and the colouring suggests Juniper Carpet to me.
