Got the trap out at the moment, its looking good with Waved Umber, Pale Prominent and 2 Brimstone so far. Plus a Cockchafer that came hurtling towards me which breifly made me think 'Hawkmoth!'

Look forward to checking my egg boxes in the mornin'!

Who was breaking away from the pack.
Big fat zero here in Wythall this morning. Odd, as I assisted one individual into the trap at about 10.00pm last night.

This suggests some of my catch are escaping.

Very disappointing.

Lastnight's haul amounted to 1 cockchafer and 0 moths!
What's the habitat?

I didn't trap last night but anytime I went out there were moths on the wing.
I do find it bitterly disappointing when I make the effort to put out traps and its empty in morning

There are always escapees, some species more prone than others.

One time I put 16 Brimstones moths in a Robinson to find I think only 4 in it in morning

Last night was an improvement although I had hoped for more! 10 degrees, no wind to speak of and cloud cover - 15 moths and 11 species.

Twenty Plume Moth (nfy)
Cochylis atricapitana (I think) (nfy)
E.angustea
E. postvittana (2)
Swallow Prominent
Peppered Moth (nfy)
Pale Mottled Willow
Shuttle-shaped Dart (4)
Hebrew Character
Muslin Moth
Marbled Coronet

Also had Least Black Arches (nfy) the previous night from a miserable catch of 5 moths only.

Last night was a bit more promising here too. The weather men reckon things should improve further over the next few days so here's hoping.

Limespeck Pug NFY
Lime Hawk Moth 2nd for year
Epiblema cynosbatella NFY
Pale Tussock

Grant total of five moths last night: 2 Rustic Shoulder-knots, a Turnip Moth, a Muslin Moth and a potted pug I shall look at later.

Although the day was warm the temperature dropped fairly rapidly under clear skies. Even so, with no wind, I would have expected much better at this time of the year.

I put it out in my garden. All the plants out there are foreign imports that look wrong. I live across from a small woods however it is about 50m away behind a stone wall. Couldn't get out to my usual spot at Cuskinny. However, today Im going to a spot out there with Jim to get permission to trap within a private estate. Should have a better report tomorrow with any luck.

Totals from last night here in my west Kent garden were;
Pale Prominent
Waved Umber
Buff-tip
Shuttle-shaped Dart
Hebrew Character
Grey Pine Carpet
Early Grey
Brimstone - 2

Buff-tip was one of my most wanted moths so I was rather pleased with that!

I had my both traps out last night, but didn't have time to go through my catch in the morning. What I didn't know was that it was going to be the warmest day so far this year with sun and almost 20 degrees in the shadow. I left my both traps in the conservatory.

The moths was pretty well fried when I got home, and the ones that didn't die of the heat was trampled down by 13 cockchafers that was storming around in the traps.

Anyway, 4 new species o:)

More success last night, though my first Chinese Character that I noted in the trap at about 10.00pm had found its way out by morning.

Had the following in there this morning:

Brown Silver-line
Early Thorn
Swallow Prominent

Only three moths, but the first two were new for me.

I've re-jigged the trap and hope to avoid too many escapees tonight.
