Got a couple of hours outdoors late morning/early afternoon, listening out for skylarks and wren, still nowt doing but hey, who needs to be competitive when I can I watch red kites and buzzards displaying all day overhead and all around, it’s magic I tell you. Best counts today seen at any one time : 5 5 x common buzzards 5 x red kites 3 x buzzards, 1 x kite, 1 x sparrowhawk Highlights, 3 buzzards displaying together, dive-bombing each other, pulling out of dives, twisting and tussling with each other, great to watch. Sparrow hawk (f) repeatedly mobbing a red kite like an annoying wasp (talking of which I saw my first wasp today, by the size of it a queen, on the conservatory roof, and a butterfly over the houses opposite but couldn't make out what it was) the two rising steadily to a good height as they circled, the sprawk suddenly pulled in its wings and dropped out of the sky, disappearing behind the houses at such a speed I thought it couldn’t possibly pull up, a scattering of panicking finches, and she reappeared empty-handed over the hedge a couple of doors down. Needless to say not getting much work done…. Cheers Hmmmmmm...May as well put the latest score up (gulp!) OMAHD 58 Mouldy 51......oh dear
