Mourning doves on nest for 1.5 months (1 Viewer)

I live on Long Island, NY. This couple has been nesting on top of a non-working AC (which will eventually need to be replaced) for at least one month plus a couple of weeks. They sit there steadfastly, periodically switching places. A few weeks ago, my husband peeked in and saw a couple of eggs. But now there's still nothing, no noise, no indication of babies. At this point, I feel the eggs aren't viable. I'm concerned about the bird. Is this over-nesting common? Would she still be nesting if the eggs aren't viable?
