Thanks for that, yes your are correct. When you remove the nosecone you are left with a smaller fitting. At first I thought this was not removable and part of the EP, like you said though it does come off. To be honest, I can't quite work this out. When you look at the EP, it won't pull off, but like you say if you wrap tape round this and it is tight going in, when you remove the lens the tube stays in the scope. You can replace the EP with a turning motion and it stays in. The bit I don't understand is this. What keeps the tube attached to the EP? In the last week I've I've been having a play around with the fitting and modified it slightly. On the Optolyth, you have the threaded bit at the top and then the opening narrows without any threads. The narrow part is quite deep, much deeper then than the threaded bit, so I've wrapped tape around this and this is a nice snug fit. When you push the EP in, the lower part (not threaded) goes deep inside the scope and the O ring holds it at the top. So it is now held in at the bottom and at the top. The question now have though is this. If you have it too tight going in, it is possible to pull the EP out and leave the tube in. But it is not easily removed, you have to turn and pull at the same time. same when you want to put it back.. Even though it leaves the tube behind, when you put it back in, it's still secure. Why is the tube such a tight fit, but only when it is fully pushed home, does it have some kind of taper? Ron
