My beloved is in love......with her Leica Trinovid 7x35's (1 Viewer)

the silver ones are classy....

I thought of picking up one of original 7x35's..... to compliment my retro. I can be two fisted. The retro has improved coatings and even better in the close focus, so not sure an original would be used.

Probably wouldn't get any use outside of some comparisons, but it would be nice to hear from some people who have both in possession and could weigh in on how well the antiquated Leitz holds up under scrutiny, alongside its younger and up-to-date counterpart.

A couple of years ago there was some talk from a Leica rep I did business with, said a water proof armored version was being considered. Considering these have been discontinued I’m assuming that’s not gonna happen now. But I doubt I’d go for it if it was a reality, I like these little jewels just the way they are. There was a limited run of a silverline version, which are also beautiful.

I changed out the objective caps if anybody is interested using the Opticron covers.
I would like to thank you for posting the picture of those silver beauties.

But I won't as my beloved has just seen them and I am now charged with finding a pair for her.

Thanks a bunch.

(They look absolutely stunning and I would love to see a pair in the flesh so's to speak. How can gorgeous get any gorgeouser?)

It is such a thing of beauty Mike, were it optically a duffer I think I would still love it just for its overall gorgeousness.

My beloved just loves her, and for once I am not pulling splinters out of my derrière from being sat for hours on the 'bino purchase' naughty step.

The stunning beauty of Mlle Retrovid has attracted many admirers. Just wait till I get my hands on the filthy swine who.......

She gave birth to a bouncing 8.5oz baby this afternoon, who we have named Ultravid. :)

Trying the 8x20 Ultravid again????

Yes, they were on a good BF discount but must admit that I am having great difficulty getting them to fit my ugly mug and unfortunately so does my beloved.

I thought, buy her these little poppets and she would relinquish the Retrovids to moi.

I am a total knob, she is welded to them.

I find I have to rest them on my brow, took me a while.
Not as easy as the Curios....
I'm there now and very fond of mine(y)
I have tried every way with them. But landing on my head many times after leaving perfectly serviceable aircraft has rearranged my eyesockets and whilst my dashing good looks have been retained, Ultravid placement is pants. Can't use them, so mag to grid. Shame as they truly are beautiful.

(Now the Curio's fit like the proverbial and if I am being totally honest are optically superior).

Oh well, best she keeps the Retrovids (cowards live to buy additinal bino's) and Plan Z will spring into action as the +'s and -'s of the new HDX 10x32 or the SFL 10x30's occupy this geriatric old git on a somewhat dull and wet day here in the nicer side of Offa's Dyke.

Thank you Paul, sadly out of production now and seldom seen. They could not have shifted too many but my, what beautiful bino's. I love the Black/Silver combo, reminds me of my lovely FujiFilm X100V.

Not in stock at that dealer but having received what can at best be described as a life or death ultimatum, I will scour every day till a pair pops up.

I missed that in the ad, scotty. I have seen these pop up here and there over the last few years. I’d suggest keep an I on eBay and place wanted ads on here, Astromart and CN. I’ve been very lucky at finding just about any binoculars I wanted. Just takes some time and checking in everyday.

They key is just being patient with optics...cameras, lens, bins, scopes etc... It will always pop up eventually. I know I have seen the silver ones but not very often.

I know what you mean, they should really be put on a turntable and just admired from all angles.

Stunning, but they will be used. She took them out down to the river this morning (no dunking for these) and was just astounded at the sharpness and those beautiful Leica colours. Slow focuser mind but the depth of field is amazing so they don't require much re-focusing once set.

It is a bit like my Habicht 8x30's and the Nikon EII 8x30's. One is best left at home in the dry and I suspect that when it is a tad damp, she will revert to taking her next favourite pair, the superb Curio's.

They really are beautiful and I too saw them for the first time in Ace Optic's almost three years ago. These still have the outer box with the Ace Optics sticker on them so it would be an almost 'do the lottery tonight' moment should they be the same pair!
Funny, though I own 8x42 Ultravids, 8x32 and 10x42 Nikon SEs, my absolute favorites are my 7x35 Retrovids. They’re all I’ve used since I bought them three years ago, and I don’t baby them. My second favorite bins are actually my wife’s 7x21 Curio, surprisingly good for their size.

Those Leitz must have been pretty unusual as early roof prisms back in the 60s? I don't remember anything but Porros in the 70s but I guess roofs must have been around

I have both, very similar in size. The original does well, but the new Classic Trinovid is better in every way.
I am pleased that Leica did follow through and made the new model.

Now I get it. Couldn't agree more. IMO based on brief testing (and fondling) today, the Leica 7x35 RETROVID is up there with the Curio and the VP as the pound for pound champ.

Pictures below compare the just arrived 7x35 with an older Leitz 8x40 for our OP @PatR and others who may be interested in a 2D idea of the size difference. Personally I prefer the size to performance ratio, the sleeker lines and handling of the 7x (understanding that the Leica 8x40 will have a better image but a smaller FOV than the Leitz) . But they are both Sweet.

Great comparison, thank you. (y)

I will keep looking for the other two Retrovids and the unbelievably gorgeous silver/black combo 7x35.

That would be the only way I could possibly prise the 7x35's from my beloveds gnarled hands and keep most of my (mostly) working parts.

+1 for the Curio's.

Still amazed at just how good they are and a recent dip (again) into the Ultravid waters have reinforced my view that there is no finer pocket bino around. Haven't tried a VP since my disasterous Hungarian made one, but totally get how good they are now.
