diary of a secret birder I ventured out again this morning to the same patch in search of the Charm of goldfinches with no success. I did however venture over towards the loch (as yet I haven't explored the delights of the loch as the birds tend to all congregate nearer the other end which is quite a bit away). On my wander I took more stonechat pics, both male and female, and when I came through the trees nearing the loch I looked out and saw 2 tufted ducks diving,...... then on a still piece of water a goldeneye surfaced, It must have been underwater for absolute ages as on my approach only the tufted ducks were visible for quite some time. This actually surprised me as I was under the impression that the goldeneye was a sea duck, having come across them while i.d.ing tufted ducks when I first saw them a while back... I then met an older gent out walking his dog who told me where the best places to get clear views of herons and a pair of great crested grebes were. I didn't venture over though as I am supposed to be working after all, but will keep it for another day. I must admit I was more excited at finding the stonechats again than I was at the prospect of seeing the grebes, I haven't really moved onto waterbirds yet as I am working my way through the commoners, in no particular order I may add. I tend to just wander and see what I come across. I've also noticed how much blue and great tits give the game away when I'm sneaking about. wee buggers.:t::-O
