There are quite a few spreading through Africa that look similar and sometimes it can be quite difficult to seperate these without knowing the area (California obviously doesn't really help in this regard). I would go with Taveta Golden Weaver though based on the darker feathers in the wings and darker looking back. Keep in mind that the orange on the face, of Golden Palm especially, varies with breeding cycles.The first two photos here are Golden Palm Weaver, and the second two Taveta Golden Weaver (not great photos for the taveta, but the best I had).
