I've now edited the Opening Post, so the rules now are:

How does this sound?

As the thread is now so far advanced the rules have been slightly amended:

1. You have to have seen the bird
2. You mustn't repeat a bird that someone else has already named
4. You are allowed to make 3 wrong entries, after the 3rd wrong entry then you must sit it out for the next 10 birds.
5. You can't post straight after yourself
6. Where possible, try to link the bird name you propose with the previous species on the thread.

If you approve it, I'll edit the opening post.

Rule 3 is no one must challenge the Moderator’s rules :eat:

(Doesn’t the flexibility in rule 6 undermine the objectives - otherwise who is to say what is ‘possible’? ;))

Not quite sure how you're wanting that to work Will?

Do you mean they only sit out for 3 posts, or....

if they clock up 3 wrong entries they then have to sit out for 10?

.... and how long are they 'new' for?

This from Post #2222

Everyone is allowed to make 3 wrong guesses without sitting it out. After the 3rd wrong guess then it's the 10 post rule

I read that as meaning all contributors to the thread, not just newcomers.

Sorry, wasn't concentrating.... Will said to drop the requirement about 'not searching' the thread, so I deleted that one and forgot to re-number.

In my opinion the approach could be a relaxed one, perhaps it could be mostly up to the player to decide that I guess. Personally, if I don't have a good name that links to the previous one I prefer to wait for someone else to play a 'better species' instead of posting an unrelated name (something that must be done sometimes, regardless, as the previous name may be a 'dead end' leaving no option). o:)

PS. I think the number should be 1934, 2 of the previous were repeats

There was a wink in my post and was tongue in cheek vis a vis the first part of my comment, so don’t take it too much as a proper consideration.

feel free to correct the numbering - it all feels very serious this thread now :eek!:!
