My most regrettable dip, and the biggest grip of the thread for me so far. I've been to Canudos and seen the range of hills where they were rediscovered.5444. Lear's Macaw
Basically I didn't know where they were, apart from sketchy gen from where to watch birds in S. America. Went to Recife on cheap 2 week return flight with girlfriend. No field guide. I can't speak Portuguese, and thought we'd get by on basic Spanish. How wrong I was! Most confusing country for communication I've had to travel in except for China! We saw a few random bits and bobs, but missed probably 95% of the endemics we got close to.5446. Hyacinth Macaw
Just for you LarryI'm kind of surprised you missed them at Canudos, although you do need to be at the right place at the right time to see them.
I did it the 'official' way, which is good but slightly confusing as well. I reckon NE Brazil is a lot easier to do logistically these days than it would have been even five to ten years ago. Things like Ebird and Google Maps make finding birds and sites ways easier.Basically I didn't know where they were, apart from sketchy gen from where to watch birds in S. America.
