8521 Green-naped Tanager. Masked Cardinal is not really a cardinal at all, rather a tanager.

There are just two European species left to play. At least one of them should have been seen by any self-respecting WP twitcher.

Other than Hawaii, there are two ABA breeders left.

There's about 30 Australian mainland, land birds left to play that range from moderate to next-to-impossible.

There are 10ish South African species that I would class as "gettable" too.

I see GN and CVS on the list (not seen myself tho), is that what you were referring to (I'd have thought more WP than European)?

Not sure what GN is and I can think of a couple of species covered by CVS. But no. The two species I'm thinking do not have those initials. They're both definitely European, albeit from a rather remote part of Europe

Just being cryptic as no-one seems to mention actual species when saying what species they still have/are required. GN is a recently discovered sp. in Western Sahara - I'm sure some members have posted on here about, although may have been moribund. CVS - depends on whether the country involved is considered Portugese or Africa (Rafael?) I had putative CVS off the Moroccan coast back when but sadly didn't realise till after what species could have been involved.

Ah yes. I've got GN now. No, there are several WP species left, but only 2 European breeders.

I can't access the reverse list right now, or do checks, but there are certainly WP Atlantic island species to play from Cape Verde, not sure about Canaries/Azores (ie the chaffinch and bullfinch). Wonder if Cyprus Scops has been played/is considered European? Otherwise I can't think what they might be...

:) CVS: this was once considered part of PT but was still Africa; fortunately it became independent more than 40 years ago. Not the one I was thinking of, to remain cryptic :)

Do you consider Azerbaijan as Europe? If so, Caspian Tit is still unplayed.
Both species are endemic Portuguese breeders, that's where the "shameful" bit comes from :) One of them mentioned by Larry above... I dipped it, and visiting the place by night doesn't help either ;) The other one could be easier by night at their breeding sites :)

Cyprus Scops Owl was played by myself.

Azerbaijan doesn't count as Europe

Rafael is correct. Azores!

Anyway. Can no-one play anything from Green-naped Tanager?

Terrible excuse Raphael. Surely the white rumps of the bullfinches would stand out with a torch, if you covered enough of the forest at night 😉

Yeah, it is really... I went there on work and had no control over schedules :( It's one of those birds "I know it's there" and can get on some other occasion... I hope...
