Need help with owl - So. Cal. (1 Viewer)

I saw this owl near Los Angeles about 3 years ago. What species is this? At the time I didn't think much about it assuming it was great horned but on second thought while reviewing old photos was wondering if it could be long-eared. It was sleeping partially obscured by branches during the time I saw it so I did not get better views than this. Any thoughts?
