I have read this thread but I am still unsure. Was going to put this in the birds and birding form but the forum won't let me post there for some reason. Yes I have read this thread http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=36564. Here is the situation: A fledgling baby bird with adult wings half way down it's back found on the side of the apartment building, only rocks along the building, grass and road. No visible nest. Put it on a balcony to keep it away from neighbor kids. Parent birds were not observed approaching it after some time. I am not sure what to do, Petco said they have some baby bird formula that is good for any baby bird. But they are a 45 minute each way bike ride away from where I live (assuming they are still even open by the time I ever deicde to go that route. I was thinking I could grind up some worms(is grinding up really necessary?) or provide it what ever feed (maybe by tweezer?) and keep it on the balcony in a box with some towels under it, and over it during cold nights. (I was going to use cotton balls but someone at petco said not to, it might pick at it and digest some of it) Untill it's wings are full grown and it can fly on its own. It does open it's mouth for feed for humans around it. If I were to leave it where it was found approximately, it would be at the mercy of the neighbor kids, who generally seem well meaning but may harm it by accident. Also if I left it in a makeshift nest on the rocks, it may wander off. In the grass it risks being hit by a lawn mower or stepped on if someone didn't see it. I have spent at least a hour trying to find information out as it is. Human society is closed, zoo had no information, no bird society place I know of in town(and if they exist, I wouldn't know where to look in the phonebook) I am going to go see how it is doing and if anyone saw it being fed. I hope to get some advice quick, because I understand they should be fed 3 to 4 times a day. So that means it wouldn't take long for it to go downhill.
