Hello everyone!
I need second opinion on two seabirds recently reported from Arabian Sea, both if confirmed, would be two new additions to Pakistan avian checklist.
I have no experience with either species identifications, any feedback would be highly appreciated. BirdForum was the only place I thought to get these observations IDs verified, due to the detailed responses I get here.
In Procellariidae, there are three confirmed species recorded from Pakistan. Persian Shearwater and Flesh-footed Shearwater. And a historical record of Short-tailed Shearwater.
In Sulidae, only Masked Booby is a confirmed species from Pakistan.
Note: We expected Brown Booby and Red-footed Booby as future vagrants. Similarly, Jouanin's Petrel, Wedge-tailed Shearwater and Tropical Shearwater were also expected as future vagrants. None recorded so far except the following two potentially.
1. Jouanin's Petrel (Bulweria fallax) - 6 birds seen on 13 Sept 2024 in Arabian Sea (Pakistan)
Coordinates:
24.085, 63641
23.767, 62.28
23.707, 61.715
2. Red-footed Booby (Sula sula) - a single bird seen on 20 Sept 2024 in Arabian Sea (Pakistan)
Coordinates:
23.817, 62.956
Please find the photos in attachment for both species.
