I took delivery today a set of Leica Ultravid HD + 7x42s. Over the next month or so I will pit them against my 7x42 SLC NEU. While I'm not a qualified optics expert but I have enjoyed Alpha Binocs from all of the big 3 for almost 20 years. We have a wonderful place to watch many kinds of birds and wildlife. As we live out of town overlooking the Yellowstone River in Eastern MT
I did a little bit today as it was smokey and wanted to use them both in the poor conditions. I'll be 76 later this month and am color blind.
My wife has a number of feeders that keep the birds and other animals around.
I hope everyone is havi8ng a great weekend.

I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts between the two. The Ultravid 7x42 is reportedly good for eye glass wearers but can become frustrating for those without glasses. The eye cups just may not extend far enough outward for a view without subtle blackouts at times (non spectacle use). I have another pair coming this week and I am hoping to adjust brow position to compensate for this. I'd prefer to be able to bury my eyes into the cups without needing a work around. I also am a very big fan of Swarovski as well (even their old school versions). The SLC NEU could be an alternative.

I just love the 7x comfort and admittedly fell for the Ultravid some time ago and do not know why I got rid of it. It may have been due to the lack of eye cup extension. The 140m/1000 FOV is all I need and was very comfortable. The NL Pure 8x42 was the best I have ever looked through and owned but I am resigned to 7x for my primary binocular. I love the depth of field.

Swaro will probably never do it; but, I really wish they made a 7x42 with a FOV wider than 114m/1000. The Curio 7x21, I fear, would be too fiddly as my primary binocular.

Everyone is different but I don't have any issue with the eyecups and I don'twear eyeglasses. But again everyone is different.
It's smokey again today but I'll do some more comparison as I'm going to be in Billings thru Wednesday as My wife is getting her eyes done.

Updated constantly, like weather radar. Fire and Smoke Map

The red symbols are "major" fires in the US, yellow dots are other satellite detections. Locations get more accurate as you zoom in. Ground air quality sensors are also shown, which I turned off above as clutter. Correlation of these with smoke plumes depends on the amount of atmospheric mixing.

Jasper (Canada) is particularly threatened just now. For a vignette from last year, look up Paradise, California.

On topic: I have 3 Leica/Leitz 7x, lovely binoculars.

Off topic: lot of fire everywhere….take care!
In The Netherlands meanwhile: cloudy and rainy 🧐

This kind of smoke usually greeted me on my very rare camping/hiking trips to northern New Mexico. I am currently enjoying my UVHD 7x42 immensely. It is not razor edge sharp but the view is so relaxed and enjoyable. I look forward to the comparison with the above mentioned SLC NEU.
