And we presume that the only new things in it are those that are already (or soon to be?) in the app??
The app contains the second edition with the changes from 2015. I guess we will have to wait and see if or when the app is updated.

The "Bird Guide" is considered one of the best field guides in the world with its detailed descriptions of around 1000 species in Sweden, the rest of Europe, North Africa and parts of the Middle East. It is an obvious companion out in the field and an unbeatable knowledge bank for those who want to immerse themselves at home. A must for bird enthusiasts at all levels, as indispensable as binoculars.

Now this standard work comes in a new revised edition that has been expanded by 32 pages. Many image pages have been redesigned and given new illustrations and the texts have been updated or rewritten completely. The sections on birds of prey, terns and loons are especially reworked. The "Bird Guide" has been published in over 20 countries and sold more than 1.2 million copies.

The texts pedagogically describe the size, biotope choice, characteristics, variation and sound of each species. Symbols indicate how common or rare the species are in Sweden and clear maps describe the distribution during breeding, migration and wintering.

The more than 4,000 beautiful illustrations show the different costumes of the species and how the appearance can vary due to gender, age, season and distribution. Arrows and captions point out important features of the birds and many illustrations also show the birds in their typical environment.

I just hope that they keep the species in the familiar more functional & intuitive (if less scientifically correct) order rather than adopting the latest taxonomic thinking. Above all, field guides should be functional guides rather than biological textbooks so if anything I'd prefer the sort of arrangement found in WildGuides 'Britain's/Europe's Birds'. Hopefully, the revision of diver, raptor & tern texts/plates will mean better coverage of Ruppell's Vulture, Pacific Diver and cover the Royal Tern split.

Pedagogically? That's a word I had to look up-never come across it before in my 60+ years!
Pedagogy is a term referring to learning, normally relating to the "art and science of teaching children". Malcolm Knowles introduced the term andragogy as a term meaning "the art and science of helping adults learn".
The latter would be more appropriate for adults but the terms are normally used in academic circles, when studying learning theories. Never seen the word(s) used when discussing field guides, perhaps someone was showing off? I only came across the terms (and used )when studying for a Masters Degree in Learning and Development.

Pedagogically/pedagogical/pedagogy is a word used more often by non-native English-speakers as it relates directly to a word more-commonly used in their own languages - whence its use in the context above.

To that I would add other languages may have a much broader application of of the word pedagogue (and its derivatives) in that it applies in many disciplines.

The text is translated from Swedish, and in the Nordic languages the term 'pedagogy' refers to teaching without being age specific.

Here is a more thorough description of the news in the 3rd edition; 32 more pages have been added, so several groups have been afforded more space and completely or partly new plates with more detailed text: gamebirds, loons, raptors, terns, owls, swifts, woodpeckers, swallows, 'small thrushes', tits and a few finches and buntings are some of these. More than 50 plates are either new or have been repainted, completely or partly. 13 new species has been added to the main section of the book. The rear sections with vagrants and introduced species has also been expanded. The entire text and all maps have of course also been revised.

Obviously, the app will be updated without cost . . . 🤔
Why should they do this? Would mean a free ride at the expense of the printed version. We'll all be happy if the app will come updated without too much delay.

We'll all be happy if . . .
. . . if we think that an update costs the same to produce as doing it completely from scratch. Which it doesn't - not a book and even more definitely/obviously not an app. Charging the same for an app as for a book is already a rip-off - charging the same for an app as for a book that one already owns is a joke - and charging the same for an update to an app alone is taking the . . .
