Using different light sources and angles I believe this silver appearance is partly misleading. I think the component is black but the texture is shiny. Might as well be silver may be your reaction but neither me nor my wife have any problems at all with the crescent like glare that you refer to and the only way I can find to get anything like your description is to have my eyes misplaced with regard to the optical axis.
