New sound set up (1 Viewer)

Hello everyone! I’d like to run by my proposed sound set up. My goal is to record birds and wildlife as well as record quality audio while video of birds. I keep going back and forth but think I’ve decided on the zoom f3 and rode ntg5 set up. At one point I was thinking the zoom f6 but not sure I will ever need those 6 inputs. Camera I have is the Sony A1. Plans to put it into a cage and maybe attach the f3 to the cage somehow. Somewhere down the line I’d love to hide a mic in the area I’m filming and try to get th bird sounds up close like. Not even sure how I would do that with the zoom f3. Look forward to any advice or suggestions.

I think to sync video and audio you will need look at syncing device times using a time code device - something linke the Tentacle Sync E, which overrides the time of the devices it is synced to. This allows video and sound to be properly ‘aligned’.

Maybe more help on a specialist video forum on what would work with the F3.

Hi Joe, I have just re-surfaced on this forum after a long absence, this time with sound recording as a focus, optionally with video (DSLR).
So your questions are of interest to me.

I have just bought the Zoom H8, because I thought I would like more than two channels, and I couldn't afford the Zoom F6.
My camera is an Olympus E-M1 III.

For recording up-close sound of distant birds I am wondering about a stereo pair of parabolic mics.
(Sort-of equivalent to getting close with tele lens).
Another option might be a Bluetooth remote control of camera and sound recorder, though the distance would be limited as I understand to about 10 metres.
Cheers,
Alec
