Avast Ye! Cap'n Vallo, sir, If Nikon had added thumb groves to the HG/LX series, even shallow ones like on the EDG, it would make them mighty easier to hold. They already have a nice curved shape that follows the contour of most hands, but the thumb groves would take some stain off the palms from having to grip at the sides of the bin (my gripe with most closed bin roofs). My palms often cramp up after using them for long periods. Worse on the midsized HGs, which due to my big hands, I have to "hang" from the top with one hand. Arrrgh! Great focusers on the HGs (full sized that is, I find the midsized 1/2 turn from cf to 8 too "fast" for my tastes). Constantly overshooting my target made me so frustrated I wanted to take the Hempen Halter! Shiver me timbers! Color depth and contrast are noticeably better than the older ELs and SLCs so Nikon was ahead of its time. What I would have liked to have seen on a revised Premier HG was some trade off at the edges for smoother panning like the EDG. And the addition of ED glass, particularly on the HG L, which was more prone to CA than the original Venturer. If they could do all this and keep the price unchanged by farming out the manufacturing to Lower Styria. HAR DE HAR HAR! One caveat: Beware of the Rolling Ball! From what I can tell from people's comments on the SV, the HG is more X-treme in that regard. Well, back to me grub (Salmagundi). 'Till we meet agin' on the open sea... The Crimson Pirate
