New to birdwatching and forums. (1 Viewer)

I live just outside Gloucester and as I’m disabled, spent the whole of lockdown at home. Never have I appreciated my garden so much, and never have I realised there are so many birds! Having 3 large trees in next doors garden, there are blue tits, great tits occasionally long tail tits, house and tree sparrows, magpies and doves and pigeons, all of which I watch everyday now. I have bird books and binoculars bought for me and I can even recognise certain bird calls. I found this forum so full of information and held for a newbie like me !Thankyou

Hi Gardentwitcher,
Greetings from Michigan, USA. I just signed up today. I read that you have a disability as do I, and I’m hoping that being able to view and identify birds will help with mental wellness. I’m looking forward to learning from the seasoned birders as well as the new ones like yourself. And I love nature! My next step is purchasing a lightweight pair of binoculars that I can handle so that I can actually see what it is I’m looking at. I have an old pair of (1950s/60s) Binolux 7x35 binoculars that I think belonged to my dad. They are kind of heavy and awkward for me to use. I do take my glasses off to view, but I’m very nearsighted so I do need something better. I’ve narrowed it down a bit, and I’m looking to get some good advice from other here. Happy viewing!
