. Hi HighNorth,
. Do the shoes fit, and do you like the colour?

When I got to Gothenburg airport, the customs opened my suitcase, scattered everything around, found nothing of interest and just left me to repack it. Not a friendly bunch of officials.

Bruce,

What is a 7 piece bundle?
Just curious.

Jan ... According to the Adorama webpage,
- Field Optics Research Binocular EyeShield, Standard Size, Pair $10.99
- Field Optics Research Pocket Optics Cleaning Kit, Combo Pack $11.50
- Field Optics Research Cleaning Solution Spray Bottle, 2oz $3.99
- Field Optics Research Rapid-Release Binocular Adapter $24.99
- Field Optics Research GunPod Rifle Rest $7.99
- Field Optics Research PhotoPod Camera Adapter $7.99
- Field Optics Research BinoPod Harness & Pack System, Black $64.00

Here is the States it is not unusual for a vendor to toss in some extras to entice buyers when the vendors for a product have all agreed to a manufacturer advertised price. Some toss in extra items, some offer free overnight shipping, etc. Once a customer decides on a product which are all sold at the same price from legitimate vendors, then the product basically becomes a commodity. The vendor now must distinguish itself from the others with extras and/or superior customer service.

...or you might get one from an online shop in Norway! Several shops here stock them now. It might be cheaper too actually, due to the strong dollar and the weak krone. ;) I have an 8x42 SF on its way to me in the mail, ETA January 22nd! :-O

The problem is that generally warranty is only available from the sales region that imported the binocular. I doubt Zeiss USA would cover a SF purchased outside the Zeiss USA sales region. The buyer would have to ship it to Germany where I assume it would be covered.

I take it you are excited about receiving the SF, thus the :-O ! I am looking forward to reading your impressions. :t:

They were in black leather, size 38 (UK size 5?), so even though I do like the colour black (timeless and stylish!), they were a bit too small for me! :smoke:

Also, I don't commonly wear high heels! ;)

Thanks Bruce.

This makes more sense.

Would somebody who has the Zeiss 8x42 SF and the Swarovski 8x32 SV post a picture of them laying flat out together. I would love to see the relative size of the two together.

I just checked the website of a large net seller, Cameraland, for availability on the new SF binoculars.
They show the 8x42, available and add to cart.

However the 10x42, accepting orders for Sept. delivery. That is very long delay, and I suppose
is the main size they are selling here in the US.

That is a nice collection of some newer roof optics.

I recently checked your website, and have only found some older
porro's in your mention, and review.

Jerry

Right - but I should add that I own none of these latest roofs. In July last year, when I was visiting Germany and incidentally the Zeiss SF was presented at a local optics store, I had that opportunity for a quick comparison, that is where I took that photo.

Since I have been working on my book, means during the last 3 years, I have done little work on my web page, there was simply not enough time left. But I recently wrote an article for a German amateur astronomers journal, with a comparison between the Zeiss 10x54 HT and the Swaro 10x56 SLC (the Swaro was a little ahead in my opinion).

Cheers,
Holger

Thanks Holger. Are all those yours? Nice collection. The SF is bigger than the SV but it is not huge for a 42mm. How do you like the Zeiss SF? I was thinking about trying one.

Sweet Jaysuz Dennis!

The man was good enough to post the answer to your question in the post immediately preceeding yours! .... do you think you could do him the courtesy of reading it first before you publicly dribble all over the airwaves ?! :brains:

You are very special ! :'D :egghead: :loveme:

Save your breath ..... we all know your hanging on the ×32 SF (expected circa 2018+ :) !!! Those Howard Stern girly arms and shoulders like a cricket bat would never be strong enough to lift the 42's despite their minimal weight reduction :smoke:

And before you ask, yes we do have kangaroos hopping down the main street, and no a dingo did not eat my baby !!! :eat: 8-P

Chosun Juan. You used to make some pretty good comments but lately I think you have lost it. You didn't get your head caught in a Salt Water Crocodile's jaws did you? Do they make moonshine downunder?

Really? So what is a huge 42mm? Keep talking yourself into it,
What I meant is the Zeiss 8x42 SF doesn't look any bigger than the average 42mm binocular. I am not trying to talk myself into the Zeiss SF. I am just trying to get some feedback on it. After reading the Zeiss SF and the Swarovski SV thread it looks like the Zeiss SF has a lot of initial problems with the eyecups sticking and the shipping of the incorrect objective covers so I will probably wait awhile before I would buy one. It doesn't seem to be any big improvement over the current alpha's.

Stone the bl**dy crows Dennis -- how much can a Koala bear?!
You'd have to be a flammin' Galah to believe that you're seriously contemplating toting a whopping great ×42mm --- unless of course, you've had a chest hair transplant you'd like to tell us about?!! ......... ;)

. Hi HighNorth,
I hope that your new 8×42 SF arrives safely.

Looking at the declination of the Sun today, I think that it was possible around midday local time for you to see a small portion of the sun peeping above the horizon, assuming that you have a flat horizon where you are.
Taking atmospheric refraction into account I think that maybe you could see it yesterday, just.
If you were able to view from a high point in relation to the horizon, maybe even two days ago.
Was the weather clear of cloud today, so you could actually see the Sun.

I think that you had 52 days with the Sun below the horizon.
I'd probably go into hibernation.

There is a nice comet at the moment, which is a good binocular object. Maybe 15° or so to the right of the Pleiades.
