New Zeiss Victory SF !!!!!! (1 Viewer)

They hired former Swaro designers, but guess they forgot to have a talk to Kikkertspesialisten on how to add up some numbers. Still a way to go to catch up with Swaro...

Good idea Dennis!

The Zeiss SF was designed by a former Swarovski employee. If they get some more from Swarovski it should be a real big help!:-O

You are right Bob but actually there was at least two ex Swaro employees involved in the development of SF: Dr Dobler and Konrad Seil.

This must excite Dennis enormously ;). He is probably less excited by Leica's second-string Trinovid beating Swaro's EL SV 10x32.

HaHaHaHa etc

Are you implying that something is not on the up and up between Kikkertspesialisten and Swaro?:eek!:

Dont worry .its only people that dont know anything about binoculars that trust "Kikkertspesialisten"

Me myself would not buy a binocular from "Kikkertspesialisten " even if someone else put the money on the table and I get it for free .

Anyway, it goes without saying that tests like these are always going to be highly subjective, and have to be taken with a grain of salt...

Hello, Zeiss? This is Jan van Daalen. No, no relation to Eddie or Alex van Halen, it's van DAAlen. I'm an optics dealer in Holland. I'm cancelling my SF order. Gijs, my optics tester, found that the SF doesn't even come close to the Swaros I carry or even match your HT. So cancel my order and tell Dobler to go back to the drawing board.

I am not happy when the half table in the office is one company that is the Norwegian represantive for several binocular brands and maybe most of it - is Opticron , and the other half is another company that is testing binoculars .

Its the same people at Optiline.no and Kikkertspesialisten.no . Optiline´s favorite is Opticron
Maybe this give you a hint.

I got a chance to try a pair of the 8x42 SF in Norfolk last week - what a disappointment!

I had serious issues with the eyecups - major black outs, which I do not get with the Victory , nor with the HT. Presumably this is just down to the shape of my face, but given all the hype the reality came as a bit of a shock.

Optically I'm sure they are great, but I could not get past the black out problem to give them any further serious consideration.

I bought a pair of the Zeiss 7x42 Dialyt. Screw the SF's. I got my 450 foot FOV for a third the price and they are built better. At least they won't fall apart from a little drop. And besides now I can make Brock jealous because I know they are on his bucket list. Brock if you take me off your ignore list I will give them to you. I don't have to worry about the offer because he isn't listening. HaHa!

Normally black outs can be a problem when the eye cups do not extend far enough in relation to the eye relief.

That is a problem I have encountered in various brands so it is something I check for. It was not a problem for me with the SF prototypes I tried this summer.

Do you view without glasses? If so, were the eye cups fully extended? It has been reported that the cups are stiff and it is easy to think they are fully extended when they are not. Apparently there are three postions, fully collapsed, mid way extended, and fully extended.

Here is a post and follow up discussing the stiffness of the eyecups when new.

Yes, the eyecups were fully extended (I also tried them in the other positions). I view without glasses.

The eyecups seem a bit of an odd shape - with a flat top to them, which I immediately thought looked like something I'd see on a lower quality binocular.

The eye cups on my 7x42 Victory FL have six (6) distinct stops when opening them to the fully extended position.

You have to turn the eye cups slowly to feel each of them.

Stops 2, 4 and 6 are very small movements which lock the eye cups into their respective positions.
