Lee I can not wait to try the Zeiss SF down at Lost Creek Shoe Shop with a new pair of boots. I like the specs!:t:

Steve,

That's a good deal! Get a new pair of boots with one!:t: It seems like everybody has deal these days!:king:

Leica is offering a new medium size Field Bag from Filson with any new 42mm binocular and, of course, you can get a new waxed cotton binocular case from Swarovski if you buy one of their new commemorative 8 or 10x30 CL Companion Africa binoculars.

Do you think that Lost Creek would throw in a pair of socks too?

Sounds like a great plan Steve and Bob:king:

I recommend Meindl boots by the way. I bought some to go to Germany but I didn't get a complementary SF:C

I attended the Photo Plus Expo at the Javits Convention Center in NYC last week. Which had numerous vendors including Nikon, Canon and Leica. Zeiss was also present and had a very large booth featuring both the camera lens and the sport optics divisions. Sport Optics had most of the binoculars on display including a pair of Victory SF prototype. The view with them was very pleasing, color free and were very comfortable to hold with the bridge design. I asked about the delays on the SF and was told shipments would start early 2015.

It may have been posted previously. How much will the SF cost?

Hi FD

$2,600 and $2,650 for 8x and 10x is what Eagle Optics are asking, please check on the internet for prices from other dealers. The SF is not in stock with them yet, but stay patient and they will come.

Lee,

Just pay 2.500,00 euro for the boots and I throw a SF in your direction8-P

I remember years ago in the UK when garden centres were limited in what they could sell on Sunday's. Hardware could not be sold, so you could buy one onion set for several hundred pounds and get a free lawnmower. I think that loophole was quickly closed.

Back to the bins - I see that the Zeiss advert in British Birds (November) says "Victory SF is the best set of observation binoculars ever made". Says it all. I also believe that the Zeiss 7 x 42 Dialyts were the best ever made at the time but that is only my opinion.

HI Colin

Yes, there is a line of thought that would list the succession of birding bins in the UK to go like this:
Zeiss Dialyt 7x42
Leica Trinovid BA 8x42
Swarovski 8.5x42 EL (SV)
With Zeiss's SF coming to challenge for leadership.

All fine performers.

Hi Brucey

Yep CJ 'summed it up' pretty well, ........

OK, that explains transparency to me! :t:

Seriously, thanks CJ and Lee for providing a detailed explanation of what transparency means to you. Sounds like I was on the right track. In addition to the excellent optics of the SF, I suspect the exceptionally wide FOV and the balance are major contributors to that transparent feeling of the SF.

You are right. The FOV is really stunning and although 7x enthusiasts would be entitled to yawn and say they have been telling us about this for years, its another thing to see it in 8x. I need to check it out in 10x too.

Does a transparent feeling equate to transparency ? My wide FOV 6.5X Fury have a big open feel to the view, whereas my narrow FOV 10X Minox feel less open but are far more transparent. That being said, I'm sure the SF is very resolving and transparent.

Bruce, clearly ..... you've got it! (o)< :flyaway: :-O

Can't wait to see an SF to see if it's got it too -- not unheard of in an S-P roof, but rare .......

We should probably start a thread on 'transparency' so we can argue until the cows come home about which bin has got it, and in what decade it first occurred and has any 'noticeable' progress been made, or are we 'clearly' at the transparency threshold !!!!! 8-P

Transparency to me means the feeling that you are not looking through an optical system at all or there are no binoculars between you and the bird but you have simply moved 8x closer. The two most transparent binoculars I have experienced are the Swarovski SV 8x32 and the Swarovski Habicht 8x30 which are probably the best roof and the best porro optically in the world.

Dennis, the 8x32SV is a fine optic (if a little dinky and toy like! :) though IMNSHO I wouldn't say it has that 'transparent' quality ..... it seems to have those artifacts to the view, because of, and in common with most dielectric S-P prism roofs :cat:

Here's hoping the SF is better, though I wouldn't be surprised if it's not in that respect. :brains:
