Night vision equipment for mortals (1 Viewer)

Even if you are against hunting, where is the harm in stealing their know how? You want to have as good tech as they have to spot them first :)

Bear in mind that Pulsar, which many of us have, is purely a hunting brand, the people behind the company are hunters.
Nothing wrong with appropriating 'their' knowhow. I usually wear military camo in the forest because it works well and is cheap, but I am, by and large, a pacifist. I have never killed an animal in my life.
What I do not understand is why folks have the urge to show their appreciation for nature and her beauty by killing animals. They all must have very small appendages - even smaller than their tiny brains. But as the staff member said, we're to welcome all sorts here, so I will keep my opinion to myself in future, even though I believe declaring open season on hunters to be perfectly acceptable. At least that is a fair and fun fight. I am a very good shot with rifles and crossbows.

I see HIKMICRO are bringing out updated 2.0 versions of their FQ35 and FQ50 devices. I have the original FQ35 which I think is ideal for birding with its 1.8x base mag, the new updated model would be well worth considering for anyone researching a new thermal.

Does anyone have any experience with the Nocpix lumi p13 and how this would compare to the 'big' (and much more expensive) players. Still not cheap though.

I was talking to a night vision equipment user yesterday, who told me his was ineffective in hot weather since the difference between the target species body temperature and air temperature was too small. He also said he could not image bats successfully because the repeat rate of his device was too slow.

In my experience, sunny days are a no-go, but if it's 30 degrees, but cloudy the whole day and nothing gets selectively heated up, it still works fine. Of course, my fancy Pulsar has a high frame rate, so flying bats are very nicely seen.
Would you remind me which Pulsar you've got, please?

John

Would you mind sharing names of some of the "up and coming" brands from the thermal hunting groups?
The most promising one looks to be "Rix".

I can't seem to recall the others, but I'll post again if I come across them.

FYI - for any Americans/Canadians, the best bang for your buck thermal I can find right now is the new V2 of the AGM 15-384

they took the NETD from <40mK to <20mK and can be had under $1000 USD brand new

I've had a couple of friends get cheap 256 monoculars recently and they weren't happy with them, so I no longer recommend 256 unless someone is on the most extreme budget possible.

Sorry for the people that bought a HikMicro FQ a couple months ago but this new 2.0 series is interesting. Shutterless and one hand focussing. OLED 1920x1080 viewfinder and 640x512 sensor with 12μm and NETD: less than 15 mK. FQ35 22m x 17.5m FOV.
