Hi all, I have just bought this scope. It was on offer with £70 off for the straight pink version, so I went for it. My Birding friends advised me to get the 50ED. Not being proud, a saving of £70 seemed a good ide, but it was the straight version only. Being only 5'3", the straight suits me well on a hide mount, I found my friends angled too high for me sitting in a hide. My other friend the "expert" has a straight 77mm Kowa and prefers it to angled. At my height sharing would be hard whatever I got the 13-40 Zoom, after a bit of viewing and a discussion over the 27x, but went for the zoom as I only need the scope to target on birds, after using the bins. I like the scope and ep a lot.. However it shows how the events at the time make you forget sometings, and I forgot to check the ER - bit silly having scopes for astronomy, but there you go, pressure at the time. Having said that I wear specs, and have not yet found the ER a problem Yesterday, I bought a cheap and nasty monopod £15 form Maplin). I found it very good indeed with the 50ED. I also found if looking to tree tops, by extending to full height, and then angling the monopod towards me, it was no problem, so I am quite pleased with that and the hide mount(which I used with my bins). The tripod will stay at home unless we are at the sea shore or waters edge for a long session. I might consider the 27WA if I ever have £200 spare Just a few thoughts in the 10 days I have had the scope. gkw
