Brock, I have considered myself to be sensitive to the "rolling ball" effect in the past, and was aware of your experience with the LXL's, but I have to say I've not noticed any of that effect with these Nikons. But I have seen it in the past. Worst case was with a pair of Zen-Ray 9x36's that I had for less than 48 hours due to that condition specifically. I do like the view from these Nikons (dare I say even a touch more than my SLC's ?) mostly due to the color balance being more "normal" to me and the contrast a touch better. I think the warmer color balance and more contrast makes the Nikons appear less bright, and perhaps they are, but it also makes for what I call a more "normal" view. What you see is what you get, so to speak. A lot like my Sightron Blue Sky II's - pretty much what you see with the naked eye, just closer. My SLC's favor the blues and seem to be exceptionally bright (brightest I've ever seen) but I can't be sure if that's because they are actually brighter, or because they tend to have a cooler-colored image that just makes them appear brighter. I had my LXL's at the coast yesterday, and I have to say I was missing absolutely nothing in terms of sharpness or clarity when viewing shorebirds and looking for distant schools of fish ( we were surf fishing ). But no, I couldn't have reached deeper into my pocket at the time on the SLC's. The amount I gave for them, despite being a steal of a deal, was actually a stretch for me at the time. And I'm not interested in the double-hinge Swaro's as they are just too big for my tastes. As for the hold, I prefer the Nikons. Better balance and barrel shape for my hands than the SLC's. According to my scale, the SLC's and LXL's are both the same weight, but that really surprised me because the Nikons just feel lighter in the hand all around. The armor is pretty ugly. Eyecup rubber is torn in a few places. It really is soft. But still fully functional. The logos are missing on the top of the hinge. Must have just popped out, which is why I was a little unsure about what the seller had until he sent me pictures of the manuals. The one ? I have about these after 2 days of use is barrel alignment. Although I don't notice any issues at first, after viewing through the LXL's for an extended period, I do feel my eyes need to make a small adjustment afterward that I don't experience with my SLC's, Granites or Sightrons. It's very subtle though. I may just need to send these LXL's in to Nikon and have them adjusted. They could put new rubber on the eyecups for me at the same time. Considering how little I paid for them, even if they charged me to repair them I will still come out way ahead.
