So... NL eyecups on EL10x50 might bring some benefits - such as described in post #13 - but won't increase usable eye relief (because of that ring thing). Did I get that right?
Not what Im reporting. I have no idea what effect the ring thing might have on optics, if any. What I am reporting is the NL eyecup is longer, that makes the ring thing sit above the ocular lens. I would guess if there's any effect on optics, its the extra length of the eyecup tube. I wish Swaro would come and comment. My guess regards the ring thing, is that its some sort of debris shield....
Ill ask a question re the EL 10x50? I get the 10x50s are larger in barrel diameter and overall length. Do we know if the eyepiece of the 50s is any different from the 42s?
The NL eyecup would increase useable eye relief on an EL if it could retract fully as designed, however it tends to connect with the armouring when on this setting, stopping it from retracting to the flat setting (on a 8.5 that is, not sure about a 10x50)
Can also confirm that the NL eyecups will fit on the EL 8.5x42. I've found that they are slightly more finicky to screw on than the original eyecups, so be careful not to cross-thread. The EL rainguard will not fit on the NL eyecups (slightly wider)
While the NL 42mm eyecups can be used on EL 42/50mm binos, indeed there is a slight difference in the threads and the NL eyecups must be carefully mounted on ELs to avoid cross-threading. Because I prefer the EL eyecups I have tried to use them on the NL 42mm binos: interestingly they do not fit, so in fact the EL and NL eyecups are not really interchangeable.

Good to hear the reverse case. I guess that concludes the experiment once and for all! Hopefully this is useful for EL/NL users with eyecup issues in future
