[QUOTE="username, post: 1605434, member: 70211"] If i were 'perfect'...i would always be kind and receptive to non-birders 'inquiries' when i am in the field...but strangely enuff...i am not perfect. I am like most birders, in fact most people, and am prone to be in a certain mood on a certain day. Try asking me if there is 'anything special about'? when i'm concentrating on a birds ID....and you are unlikely to get a 'positive response'. By that i mean i would just try and avoid getting into an annoying pointless conversation with someone who hasn't got a clue...[and who seems to have nothing else better to do than talk to a 'twitcher' and have a good old laugh about it]. When someone, quite innocently, comes up to me/us like this to ask their questions...we call it being 'mugged'. Most annoying of all is the 'drive-by muggings' which we have to endure whilst birding at a local reservoir. When i hear a car slowing down i'm in dread. The car pulls up..window comes down...then the 'mugging/shooting' happens as they ask...'anything special'? Sometimes i don't mind the questions...sometimes i can be helpful...on other days i'm just not 'in the mood'! Often i think, 'just go away..you wouldn't know what a special bird was if it whacked you round the face...so why ask'? [I know this is a terrible way to think...but i do...so am just being honest and illustrating, obviously, what a terrible person i am]!;) It also depends on 'the persons' approach and if i actually think that they are 'really' interested...[often they are not]...they just want a chat. Nothing wrong with that of course....but! Since birders/twitchers have become something of a curiosity to the general public, owing to the media, we seem to get mugged all the time nowadays... ps...i wonder, how would some o 'these folk' like it if i kept interrupting their pleasurable pursuit by coming up and ask them continual..[yet perfectly innocent]..questions......'Are you enjoying that sex sir?...and how is it for you madam?...anything special'.....?
