Norfolk birding (1 Viewer)

Mega tern?

In view of the recent was it/wasn't it? posts I thought I'd wade in with what I believe might be a Norfolk first. Although another in a long list of heavily cropped, not great quality pics I hope this provokes some interest - I think it might be an Australian common tern. (No Photoshop trickery, honestly, this is the way it came out of the water at Strumpshaw last Saturday.

I always thought they flew like this when there was a Skua about, they search the sky for any attacking bird. However as yours was inland in spring this throws my theory out. Have to have a rethink. o:)
You could be correct with your Australian theory. However, sorry but yours was not a Norfolk first, this bird was flying off Cley Oct 2010

Having not been able to visit Cley in the last 2/3 weeks as numerously as I usually do, I noticed the Oystercatcher nest on the North Bank was now gone. Does anyone know what happened?

Also Hobby over and Little Tern late in the afternoon. By 6pm there must have been about 8 Ruff on the fresh marsh. I don't suppose anyone in or around the Parinder Hide between 5 and 7pm picked up a mobile phone? I think it was in the saltmarsh side. Had a search for it while I was there but no luck :( PM would be really appreciated (other half is 38+ weeks with our first and it would be pretty handy if she could get in touch with me while I was at work.....) Mega thank you if you can pass it on to the Visitor Centre.

Paul,
If your appeal doesn't work, try ringing your phone after contacting your provider to ask for a geographical trace... It might provide some interesting posts as a consequence.

Sadly no far flung final destination for the phone. It was found in one of the hides and handed in this morning. Phone and owner to be reunited soon

I can just see the photo now. 'We went to Titchwell for the day and photographed this odd dark seabird on the beach. We think it's a tern of some kind'.

Mind you, better that than another (much larger) dark fork-tailed seabird that could still be in British waters. That would really grip me!

James. They are all own Swaro's so they must be experts. Seriously though, should it continue south hope all those who missed it over the weekend manage to connect.

Essex birder up in Norfolk for a while, only 18 relying on grandad to drive me places, probably end up missing the Tern. Wheres this Tern supposed to be anyway?

There are water droplets around the heads/necks of both the 'turned' terns. Seems to me they're just shaking off excess water post-fishing and happen to have been caught mid-shake by the camera.

At ease BirdPics - folk are just taking "Bridled Tern south past Flamborough Head 11:15am today" and making the obvious (or should that be 'hopeful') prediction of "Bridled Tern somewhere in N Norfolk later today/tomorrow"...

Relax, for the mo, Tom: read my #20910 again and stay internet-linked to a bird info service- or mortgage your soul to someone with a pager.
