In my Landie, under a tree
Hi,

I've just put in my gallery:

15916Elaenia_1_comp_290805.jpg

which I took in Fernando de Noronha, Brazil last week. I see in the database you have the name: Noronha Elaenia, and I think this is it !?

Please could you add if it's ok.

Thanks,

Mike

Welcome back from what I hope was a great vacation. And what a great photo! This isn't the Elaenia, but rather it is the other Noronha endemic: The Noronha Vireo (Vireo gracilirostris), a species with a very fitting scientific name indeed (it basically looks like a faded Red-eyed Vireo with a very long bill). This is only the second photo I have seen of this species. For comparison here's a photo of the Elaenia (it's basically a very typical Elaenia):

Thanks Rasmus for that and your correction, and I've corrected the details in the photo in the Gallery as well. Thanks for your link, and I do have photos of what I now know to be the Elaenia and not a Vireo. As we discussed in a separate thread under 'Books', I sourced only Birds in Brazil and was unable to arrange delivery of the books you mentioned. Time was short. I go to Brazil every year of so, so, next time perhaps.

I'll put in a couple of photos of the islands in the gallery in the next few days when I have a bit more time, but indeed had a truly excellent holiday with the family.
