From there it's 1.5 h on the train to Den Helder, then bus and ferry, then rent a bike once on the island (it's right next to the ferry port, or you could get one in Den Helder at the train station and skip the bus).Second, yes you can take bikes on the train with a separate ticket. If you were to arrive in IJmuiden you'd have to take a bus to Amsterdam Sloterdijk station (regular and takes about half an hour I think), then train to Den Helder. Again, no point getting a bike until you're on Texel or in Den Helder.The bike route through the dunes from IJmuiden to Den Helder is lovely, if a little strenuous, takes a full day or two with birding stops on the way.Cheers,Joost</blockquote>
