Thanks for the replies, Palawan looks absolutely stunning. I'll have to look into the logistics of getting there from Kota Kinabalu. I'm basically looking for a good beach location (in December this seems a bit tricky) where I can do a bit of birding nearby. The first 2 weeks will be trekking & birding, so I must make sure the other half gets at least a bit of time at the beach! I didn't think there'd be any chance of the flowerpecker on Cebu, but the island sounds interesting and easy to get to from KK. We've provisionally booked into a place on Bantayan which probably won't be ideal for birding, but this is subject to change. I've switched the schedule for Sabah a bit, 2 nights at Sepilok (Orang's for other half, chance of Bristlehead?), then 3 nights on the Kinabatangan. A fairly general question but I imagine the best option here is just to bird from the boat early & late in the day for Malaysian Rail babbler? The rest of the day I'm unsure about, but perhaps there are trails nearby. Is a guided tour package a good option for those of us on a tight budget? Thanks again in advance!
