One seen from a distance over Eggleston Common, Teesdale this morning being mobbed by two Lapwing and then almost immediately by two Black-headed Gull.
No wing tags at all on it.
Yes, you're correct, Ian. One of the Eggleston pair is an untagged bird.
Please may I save your images for my Database? I'd be very grateful if you were able to send me as high a resolution as possible - they would be used in a Powerpoint presentation later this year. Of course, I'd acknowledge your work. I love the one of the kite and lapwing - not often we get this kind of photo.
don't know if your interested in these two I spotted on the Derwent walk my first Digiscope expedition. David
Hi June I walked from the Thornley woods centre on the west bound track towards the viaduct you pass a pylon on your right and walk for another 300 yards and look down towards the river if you pass another pylon you have walked to far they were about a hundred and fifty feet into the trees and twenty feet below the path hope this helps. David. P.s tried to send you this pm but said your mail box was full
Thanks for posting this David. It is very interesting - I hope you won't mind if I send the image to Ken, our chief tracker. I'm sure he will be keen to see this...may be able to explain why when I receive his reply.
Speak soon.
June,
I photographed WT15 and WT43 at this time last year and thought that WT43 was helping out. It's interesting that they seem to be hanging around together a year later.
I was down at the Viaduct today and I've got to say that the level of Kite activity was amazing, for the first half hour I was averaging a Kite every 3 minutes and lost count after that, it's as if they are all suddenly taking to the skies.
I also think that the Viaduct has up to 3 nest sites within view and because of the activity I'd guess that they contain young. I don't think I've seen as many Kites in 3 hours as I've seen today and it was almost constant action rather than a few large groups.
I’ll check to see if I have any photographs which are worth posting.
It sound s as though you had a really great time today - lucky you!
Ken tells me that WT43 must have invaded the territory of WT15 and WT16, which make up our regular pair. It looks as if they tolerate him. He is possibly a kite which had a mate but it didn't work out.
You will come to Kitewatch, won't you? I shall be there on the first two Tuesdays, then odd days in the weeks which follow. Please pass on details of Kitewatch to any interested folk.
Hi June dont know if you seen this in the Chronicle thought it might interest you http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nort...rare-chance-for-nature-lovers-72703-21003640/
