Hello all. I'm staying at Alnmouth for the week beginning 7th July and would welcome any information regarding good sites. Where is the nearest place for good sea watching and what is likely to be around? Shearwaters? Also any information on the Farnes would be welcome - i.e. which is the best trip and what is likely to be about.Anything else would be welcome.

Many thanks,

Hugh

If it's not Wood and it's not Green it must be.......

......Common. Had a quick look this evening at Holywell Pond and the Beehive. No sign of said Sandpipers but a Common on the shore from the public hide at Holywell. Relax - photos to follow as it's too late now! :t:

Hi Hugh, Inner Farne has everything and is great for close contact with the birds . Church point Newbiggin is possibly the the best sea watching point.
Druridge bay reserves are nearby. A good starting point is to check out this blog as it has lots of local sites with up to date info.

As to sea watching there is a chance of shearwaters and skuas, just depends on the weather.

Two from last night. The Common Sandpiper from HP and the not-so-ducklings from BF.

Thanks Brian, much appreciated. Any ideas anyone of the best boat trip to book on?

Thanks again,

Ours was a private hire for all day landing first on Staple Island for two hours, then on Inner Farne for another two hours.

Not sure as to individual day trips but if you can ,find one that gives you as much time on Inner Farne as possible. i think all the trips take in the seal colonies and do the historical bit about Grace Darling.

Hope you have a great day out and i look forward to hearing how you get on.

PS take a hat or stand next to a tall person, cos the Arctic terns take no prisoners , a ringed plover has a nest just yards from the landing area and the wardens may be able to pinpoint the couple of Roseate terns that are on the island
