Northumbrian Birding (1 Viewer)

seggs

Alrite!
Good Lord, Mr Wobbler, quite a monologue! :t:

Was there at half seven this morning. No eagles nor vultures nor birders, I'm afraid to say.

There were four Snow Geese with the Pinkfeet flock in the fields to the NW of the North Pool though, and 16 unruffled Ruff in front of the bean tin. :t:
Even the south of the Tyne visitors refuse to use these hides...except for rain.

Me and the family joined the crowds at prestwick Carr this afternoon. I was surprised to see so many people there, I thought everyone would have been to see them by now. There was no sign of any Long-Eared Owls when we were there, but the Shorties put on a good show as always.

Good pic, Gary. I haven't been over (yet), but next time you're passing, invite them to fly across to West Hartford, please. :-O

I misread this title at first....

text of "The history of the Tweedie, or Tweedy, family; a record of Scottish lowland life & character"

http://www.archive.org/stream/historyoftweedie00twee/historyoftweedie00twee_djvu.txt

NOt that there is any scottish lowlife in walker, I wouldnt dare say that.

http://www3.telus.net/public/htweedy/TWEEDY DESCENDANTS/d1.htm

As with alot of northumbrian surnames they are a mix of english* and scots.

* meaning angles+vikings, norman saxon and old briton being thin on the ground up here.

@Tweed devil, and thus subsequently [email protected] !

Couple of SEO's gave a pretty nice display this evening for a good few of us watching from the roadside at approx 17:20. Light was not particularly good as the sun had dropped behind clouds - photo's were a bit difficult due to slow shutter speeds.

Anyway couple of pics from this afternoon

Born to seawatch...
jimmy steele was asking what size these snow geese are, anyone got any pics ofthem yet?

pics with other geese in shot would be good)

Photos on Birdguides, from when they were bobbing around on the ponds with other feral geese in August. Worth contacting the photographers if you want further images.

Had another visit this morning - spent approx an hour between 09.15 & 10.15 in the hope of some flight shots in better light. Watched three SEO's preening & stretching on fence posts prior to them dropping into the deep grass and out of sight - hope they re-appeared for the other people patiently waiting for a display...

Couple more pics....

Useful Website

Did you spend this morning beckoning the Sandhill Crane inland? Did you relax when it hit terra firma, hoping it would stick around for a day or so? Did you get increasingly frustrated as took to the air, going south, south and south somemore? You did! Click here. :t:

Don't get me started! Although I saw the bird in Aberdeen Saturday just gone it must have flown over my University just as I was coming out of the doors to look for it! :-C

An amazing bird for both counties, a one that I don't think we'll ever get a chance at again.

07:15 this morning. A Chiffchaff was singing heartily in our garden in Cramlington.

A new garden record, number 33, pushing our seen in and from the garden to 57. OK, so I'm still about 140 behind Jane Turner!
