In going through some old photos, I have a photo which was taken at Northview Golf Course, Vancouver, B.C. in May 2008. I had noted it as a Mallard, which is totally wrong, but not sure if it is a Green-winged Teal. Could someone kindly confirm this? Doesn't look exactly like the one in my Sibley ap. as the colour on the wing looks blue in the photo. Thanks in advance!

On female Mallards the bill is orange at either end with a black saddle-shape in the middle for most of the year, but for a brief period, when they have ducklings, it becomes almost entirely black. At that point it looks more like the bills of a number of other ducks, including Green-winged Teal. The size and shape of the bill, the white tail, and the blue secondaries with broad white boarders make this bird definitely a Mallard.
