Northview Golf Course - Vancouver, BC Canada - May, 2008 (1 Viewer)

In going through some old photos, I have a photo which was taken at Northview Golf Course, Vancouver, B.C. in May 2008. I had noted it as a Mallard, which is totally wrong, but not sure if it is a Green-winged Teal. Could someone kindly confirm this? Doesn't look exactly like the one in my Sibley ap. as the colour on the wing looks blue in the photoGreen-winged Teal May 11 04 Northview Golf May.JPG. Thanks in advance!

On female Mallards the bill is orange at either end with a black saddle-shape in the middle for most of the year, but for a brief period, when they have ducklings, it becomes almost entirely black. At that point it looks more like the bills of a number of other ducks, including Green-winged Teal. The size and shape of the bill, the white tail, and the blue secondaries with broad white boarders make this bird definitely a Mallard.
