So a long drive out to Doi Ang Khang, & I got there pre-dawn, putting up an Indian (unless the split means it's something else!) from the road & it flew around in the headlights. Good start. Dawn: eagles: six: four prob. Mtn.hawk-eagles (dim light) and two imm. Bonelli's. Then the fun really started. A permanent bird-wave broke over me, & from the same spot they never stopped coming. Not knowing which way to turn & when to pause & look up ids. in the book! So many - and almost all fantastic: listen to this: Long-tailed minivet male & Grey chinned together, Lesser & Greater racket tailed drongos, a Velvet nuthatch being a butterfly, a singing Fire-breasted flowerpecker, a Grey treepie and then.... wait for it... a bird landed by me in plain view & I hadn't a clue what it was. I knew it was mega. Very mega, and stunning. I still laugh when I listen to my tape of my incredulous description. Male WHITE-TAILED ROBIN. I was still in shock from that when a flock of Silver-eared mesias tried to steal the show - now I was reeling! Meanwhile in the treetop Black-throated laughingthrushes & down below, a Spot-breasted parrotbill. Stuff was all around. A White-browed piculet & Grey-cheeked fulvettas. The show went on & on. More to follow...
