Attenborough

Hi

Had a walk around Attenborough this afternoon.
Plenty of warbler activity around loads of White Throat, a few Reed Warbler with one being in the reeds by the visitor centre. Also 2 Cetti's warbler along the path from the tower hide managed brief views of both, always a great song to hear when out and about.

Plenty of other stuff around Gadwall, Common Tern, Lapwing etc.

A good afternoon out.

Tim.

is this a bewick or a whooper on clumber lake today 4th may

Hi Nidge

Looks to me like a Whooper Swan. Quite long in the bill and seems to have a long neck. It also looks like its an immature from the dull buffy wing feathers or maybe i'm seeing things in the bright light. First-summer birds, if this is one, could aquire the yellow bill I suppose by May.

Was this bird tame because it looks to be very close? I'm sure there has been a single bird that has summered in Notts in recent years?

Nice to see one in Clumber though.

Cheers

Black Terns and waders at Collingham

In a quick visit I saw 2 Black Tern, a summer plumage Knot, a dunlin and a Greenshank at Collingham on Wednesday 4th. My first visit ever to this Trent Valley site despite birding this part of the valley many many times over the years.

Cheers

i visited briefly last night for the first time. only viewed the first gravel pit you come to on carlton ferry lane, as there were 5 Temminck's Stints on there along with a couple of ringed plover so i stuck about watching them til it got dark. Looking forward to getting back down there soon.

Hi there. Just after a bit of advice having got back into birding in the last year or so. I've done half a dozen decent trips and seen quite a lot this year but wondered what were the best places for wood warbler and redstarts in Notts. Any advice much appreciated.

Hi there - I think both are scarce species in Notts. I think the former hasn't even been seen annually in recent years, although this year seems to be much better if the NBW sightings page is anything to go by:

It may be best not to post direct references to sites on this forum if there is any evidence of pairs/nesting/breeding/etc. Good luck!

a few redstart sightings were reported last year, i attempted to follow them up at one of my local patches, but to no joy.

Yes, I'm intending to be vague here but there are pockets in the general Sherwood/Clumber area of the county where most years you have a chance of singing males.
Wood Warbler on the other hand, now that is a big ask.

Hi All

Popped over to Attenborough this morning for a quick walk around.

Plenty of Whitethroat around, a family of Reed Warbler were in the reeds by the visitor centre. Plenty of Common Terns flying around.

Hi everyone, new here this is my first post. Decided to make a trip to the raptor point at Welbeck today. Great views of Honey Buzzards with two flying right over our heads. Well recommended at the moment. It was very busy, at least 15 people there. Think I'll be going again soon.
